Blind Spot 03:45
Blind Spot (J.Sule and G.Rogers) My mother said, “Leopards never change their spots” My mother said, “Leopards never change their spots And if spots don’t change on a leopard Why would a man change for you?” My mother said, “Watch that spotted leopard” My mother said, “Don’t trust that spotted leopard Cos if spots don’t change on a leopard Why would that man change for you?” Chorus I didn’t trust my mother’s words I knew you wouldn’t cause me hurt I didn’t trust my mother’s words - Instead I believed in you Instead I believed in you. Carousel Cowboy (John Sule and Glenda Rogers) Dwayne’s a circus man, he runs the carousel You’ll always see him there, working at the local fair He dreams of open plains, and real horses with flowing manes While life goes round and round, to the tune of the merry-go-round (but he was) Chorus Born to ride those plains Faster than a bullet train Hero to those in need Cowboy on his trusty steed, cowboy on his trusty steed Day by day he prays, to ride those silver plains But he does his job with care, for the folk who come to the fair The Fortune-teller Jane said, Dwayne your luck will change If you catch the south-bound train, and don’t you come back here again (You were) Chorus Born to ride those plains Faster than a bullet train Hero to those in need Cowboy on your trusty steed, cowboy on your trusty steed Dwayne’s luck did change, when caught the south-bound train And with him he took sweet Jane, to ride with him the plains (They were) Chorus Born to ride those plains Faster than a bullet train Heroes to those in need Cowboys on their trusty steeds, cowboys on their trusty steeds

Magical Man 02:41
Magical Man (J.Sule and G.Rogers) Just whenever life’s a bit deficient I look no further than the travelling magician Magic fingers, magic in his kisses His performance never really misses Roll up right here The magic will appear Roll up right here Disappearing and reappearing The way he moves is really quite appealing He’s on my doorstep at the midnight hour You know he’s got that magnetic power Roll up right here The magic will appear Right out of thin air Chorus Come and see the amazing magic man I don’t understand How he makes his magic Is it sleight of hand That makes him a magical man? What is he conjuring now With his consummate power? This is the magical hour… Chorus Come and see the amazing magic man I don’t understand How he makes his magic Is it sleight of hand That makes him a magical man? Come and see the amazing magic man I don’t understand How he makes his magic

Mac’s General Store (G. Rogers and J. Sule) It stood in the town in pride of place And carried an air of age-old grace Everyone shopped at Mac’s General Store Where you’d find all you need - and something more Some blame it on the new-fangled mall That caused Mac’s fortunes to take a fall But some folk know the inside story Of how that shop lost its former glory You could buy anything in Mac’s General Store But now no-one goes there – not anymore That store was Mac’s for generations But young John Mac brought alterations He married a woman who found it a bore, said “there’s more to life than - this general store!” Kate wanted Mac to sell up and move Nothing left now for the family to prove In the big city, there’s wealth to be found Mac disagreed and stood his own ground. Some of us heard the rows late at night But none had witnessed their last angry fight All that we know is Kate disappeared And Mac’s good name was doubted and smeared He said she’d gone to live with another And this was confirmed by his aging mother The feeling amongst the folk living here Was Kate hadn't left – she was holed up in there. The store felt different when Kate had gone Had an evil presence of something wrong And under the mat was a faint red stain That someone had scrubbed again and again The facts were too scarce to point the finger But none who shopped there would want to linger Dust settled on the shelves of Mac’s store And on the life that flourished before. Chorus

Venus 03:22
Venus (G.Rogers and J. Sule) Let me tell you what I saw today, it’ll really blow your mind away I have to thank all my lucky stars – it’s not something that you see every day Whatever, I’m watching TV Do you really have to bother me? Listen up to what I have to say, Venus passed across the sun today It’s a red letter calendar day – I bet you wish that you’d seen the display Whatever, I hear what you say But can’t you see I’m busy today? Chorus I don’t think you hear (a word I’m saying) I don’t think you care (your eyes are straying) I don’t think you know (‘bout what is happening) All around you in the universe today The Romans named that planet for love, lucky Venus shining above But you’re so wrapped up in your own little world, you’re missing love and the universe Whatever, I hear what you say But can’t you see I’m busy today? Chorus I don’t think you hear (a word I’m saying) I don’t think you care (your eyes are straying) I don’t think you know (‘bout what is happening) All around you in the universe today …

Coffee 03:44
The Coffee Song (J. Sule and G.Rogers) Life’s looking up, cos I gotta full cup Of coffee in my hand Life’s looking up, cos I gotta full cup Of loving in my heart I rolled out of bed with a thumping head I just about couldn’t stand But life’s looking up, cos I gotta full cup Of loving to give me a start. Bridge The cup of life has always seemed half empty But now I can see, with you by me, I got plenty Chorus Come along and fill me right up to the top – make it strong and very hot Come along and fill me right up to the top – with all the sweet loving you got. When things are getting hot in this coffee pot Under pressure and too much strain I just have to stop, and take a double shot To calm my nerves again. When I’m tired and sad and things are going bad I’m just about ready to scream A touch from my man gets me going again You’re the other kind of strong caffeine. Bridge, Chorus I need a strong brew of loving you Whenever I’m feeling flat Cos there’s nothing so fine as a man of mine Loving me hard right back We are a blend guaranteed to send, us Soaring to heaven and back So give me beans and top it with cream Cos I’m coming for another sack …

Live Close to Me (John Sule and Glenda Rogers) Verse 1 I saw today the perfect house – Up the hill looking over the sea I think you’d love this quaint little house – just up the road round the corner from me There’s off-street parking and plenty of sun - The garden has growing some fine native trees We’d sing our songs on the old wooden porch - Feet on the rails looking out to the sea. Chorus Won’t you come and live close to me (we could laugh and share cups of tea) Won’t you come and sing songs with me (harmonising, guitars on our knees) Won’t you come live, live close to me Verse 2 The rooms face the sun thought it does cop the breeze – There’s space out the back for growing some greens The kitchen needs work if you know what I mean – There’s a shed for Brett to fix his machines I can see us now walking down to the sea – It’s not too far through the old cemetery You’d fit right into this suburban dream – A slice of heaven for a minimal fee Chorus Won’t you come and live close to me (we could laugh and share cups of tea) Won’t you come and sing songs with me (harmonising, guitars on our knees) Won’t you come live, live close to me We could live so happily – sipping cups of tea We could sing in harmony –- Guitars on our knees] Chorus Won’t you come and live close to me (We could laugh and share cups of tea) Won’t you come and sing songs with me (Harmonizing – guitars on our knees) You’d fit right into this suburban dream (A slice of heaven for a minimal fee) Won’t you come live, live close to me

You Like Country (John Sule and Glenda Rogers) There’s no accounting for people’s tastes One man’s treasure is another man’s waste Talkin ’bout music I like a good beat Others like the tune to flow real sweet Bridge What kind of music do you like to play? What are the songs that you hear each day? What kind of rhythm makes your body sway What is the music that you love to play? Chorus You like country – I like soul You like punk I like rock n roll I’m into the blues wish that you were too We should call the whole thing off We should call the whole thing off American Rock – or British Pop Keep it all coming don’t allow it to stop Jitterbug, Jive and cool Jazz Fusion So many styles I find it confusing Bridge Chorus Whatever you’re into – I’ll take the plunge Bluegrass, gospel or Indie Rock Grunge Try Rockabilly? about

Both Sides of the Line Dunedin, New Zealand

Both Sides of the Line's cd, Sideshow, is " a record chock full of slinky country tunes, built upon 21st Century ‘adult contemporary’ bones. Digging a little beneath the surface you will find cooing swing come-ons here (Magical Man), fleeting touches of Americana there (Macs General Store), rockabilly beats and soft rock tendencies throughout."
