about

This album is an album of two halves, slowly evolving over two and half years. The second half was performed by an earlier version of Both Sides of the Line which included Jim Strang on drums, and long-term band member, Mike Hayward on bass and vocals.

In February 2022 Chris and Steve Hudson joined the band on bass and drums, respectively, and they play on the first five songs of the album. We are enjoying the locked in sound of drum and bass of the two brothers – also their harmonious vocals.

This album has gone through trial by fire, quite literally, as the Hudson’s practice room went on fire in March 2023 destroying much of their gear. But like the phoenix rising from the ashes, or the dahlias pushing through their well-manured soil, the band played on to produce this thing of comparative beauty.

Souls and Seeds could not have taken off …without the help of the following people:

Phil Rogers, of Dunedin, NZ, for his amazing recording and engineering wizardry.

Paul Sammes, also of Dunedin, New Zealand, for his superfine mastering of 8 of the ten songs, and to Andy “Hippy” Baldwin of Metropolis Studios, London, for mastering “Time enough for Love”.

Thanks also to Ralph Miller for his trumpet playing on Wish-fulfilling Tree.

The cover is an original art work by Chris Hudson.
The design of the album was done by Phil Rogers and Juliet Rogers

about

Both Sides of the Line Dunedin, New Zealand

Both Sides of the Line's cd, Sideshow, is " a record chock full of slinky country tunes, built upon 21st Century ‘adult contemporary’ bones. Digging a little beneath the surface you will find cooing swing come-ons here (Magical Man), fleeting touches of Americana there (Macs General Store), rockabilly beats and soft rock tendencies throughout." (Ricardo Kerr, NZ Musician). ... more
