about

This song was written in response to the controversy over opening or closing the John Wilson Ocean Drive to cars in Dunedin which overlooks the beautiful St Kilda Beach.

lyrics

John Wilson Memorial Drive (John Sule/Glenda Rogers)

I came to show my respects to the dead
As they lay in their beds
In the old cemet’ry
I looked across the dunes to the sea
And a strip of straight road that threw memories at me

John Wilson Memorial Drive
The place to be on Saturday night
John Wilson Memorial Drive
Memories of you are burning inside

Chorus:
(Is that the engines roaring, or just the sea that’s calling?)
I remember those nights, alright
(Is that the engines roaring, or just the sea that’s calling?)
Holding you so tight, alright

Verse 2
Did we even notice the light
Seeping out of the sky
As we raced through the night?
Springsteen pounded loud in our ears
Blood pulsed in our veins
As we challenged our fears

Bridge Chorus

Verse 3
It was there on the edge of the town
Looking out to the sea
That we found our own ground
Breaking out like the waves on the shore
We lived life to the hilt
Like never before

Bridge,Chorus (x2)

about

Both Sides of the Line Dunedin, New Zealand

Both Sides of the Line's cd, Sideshow, is " a record chock full of slinky country tunes, built upon 21st Century ‘adult contemporary’ bones. Digging a little beneath the surface you will find cooing swing come-ons here (Magical Man), fleeting touches of Americana there (Macs General Store), rockabilly beats and soft rock tendencies throughout."
